Choo Choo Barn to Host Sensory-Friendly Mornings

New Monthly Event Created for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

June 3, 2013
Strasburg, PA – The Choo Choo Barn, located in Strasburg, PA, announces a new monthly event especially tailored for individuals on the Autism spectrum with sensory sensitivity. The Sensory-Friendly Mornings at the 1,700 sq. ft. model train display are planned for the second Tuesday of each month starting June 11, 2013, from 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

With input from local autism experts from Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center, the train display, featuring more than 150 animations and 22 operating trains, will be adapted to create a sensoryfriendly experience. Changes to the display include turning off the fire siren at the popular
burning house scene, quieting the various musical elements around the display, covering the large mirror along the walls and shortening the amount of time the lights are dimmed during the nighttime scene. Other changes include covering the exit signs with stop signs and removing promotional signs that refer to loud noises. During the hour-long event, each child will be given a photo treasure hunt, highlighting nine different objects to find as they view the display packed with small-scale local landmarks and detailed scenes from Lancaster County.

To ensure the entire event is a pleasant experience for families and not over-crowded, the event will be limited to 50 people. RSVPs are required. The admission price is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 3-11. To RSVP or ask for additional details, please email Kristi at Kristi@ChooChooBarn.com.
