Cherry Crest Adventure Farm Salutes Little League

with ‘Batter up!’ Corn Maze

July 6, 2012
Lancaster County (PA)  – Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, located in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, officially opens its 17th season Tuesday, July 3rd. Summer hours are 10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday and 10am-dusk on Saturday.

Home to America’s longest-running Amazing Maize Maze, Cherry Crest is also renown as one of America’s finest examples of agri-tainment. The Adventure Farm offers a roster of over 50 activities, games and rides over 15 acres – from two giant jump pillows and singing chicken show to a ‘Lil Farmers Playland and 150’-long slides that take up a hillside. New this year is the Discovery Barn  – home to the baby chicks hatchery, poultry and dairy interactive displays plus an exhibit of antique farm equipment – and Outdoor Barn Stage for daily demonstrations on butter making, interactive story-telling and a Saturday Meet the Cow program. There’s also a new Game Station and enhanced Farm Experience Center with its popular Petting Zoo and Goat Mountain.

Of course the corn maze, billed as the world’s largest interacative game, remains the star attraction. This year America’s favorite pastimes (baseball and corn mazes!) collide as trekkers wind their way around and through our 5-acre batter at bat! Experience the sights and sounds of a great game in progress, and along the way try your hand at a speed pitch machine, snap a photo with a famous player, test yourbaseball trivia and get updates on the game. There are three levels of play to choose from – Easy, Intermediate or Advanced for our die-hard players who seek the Kernels of Knowledge and 15 hidden puzzle pieces that complete a map. The ultimate goal: find the sweet spot on the gigantic bat for a home run to Victory Bridge, and the way out.

Education, and promoting the values of life on the farm, are just as important as having fun. The Farm Tour Wagon Ride that takes visitors through Jack and Donna Coleman’s 300-acre cattle, poultry and farming operations also talks about the farm’s place in Pennsylvania history and its focus on conservation programs that include solar energy to power poultry barns and the Adventure Farm. Interactive displays cover subjects from the importance of bees to how to milk a cow, to watching a baby chick peck its way out of an egg.

Cherry Crest is also famous for its fresh-picked roasted sweet corn, homemade cider donuts, kettle corn, fresh-squeezed lemonade and hand-dipped ice cream – perfect complements to lunch and dinner menus of Angus burgers, hot dogs, chicken and fries, salads and wraps – featured at two food courts and two cafes. And don't miss the School House Sweet Shop, home to Lancaster's Best Fudge in over 30 flavors.
