Family Favorite Day Out With Thomas™: The Go Go Thomas Tour 2013
Strasburg, PA — What better way to spend Father's Day then with Day Out with Thomas! Apparently my family was not the only ones planning to attend Day Out with Thomas on Father's Day as Strasburg Rail Road was the busiest I have ever seen it. Even though Strasburg Rail Road was more crowded then usual, the staff and crew helping with the Day Out with Thomas event kept everything very organized.
We arrived at the Day Out with Thomas event about an hour and a half before our train was to leave and honestly I wish we would have arrived sooner. I had no idea this event brought in such a crowd on a Sunday. We ended up having to park at another location and were then shuttle to the Strasburg Rail Road. Those with little ones I highly recommend taking a backpack with all the essentitals you will need for the day. That is what we did and it worked out perfectly. The buses that shuttle you did have a seat to put strollers, however I recommend leaving the stroller behind and using a carrier if you have a child under 1 year old. If you do feel the need to take a stroller they do have a place to park the stroller before boarding the train. The buses unload you at Strasburg Rail Road and upon arrival you can pickup your tickets at the white Day Out with Thomas tent. For those that order tickets online be sure to have your credit card with you us used to purchase tickets. You can also purchase tickets the day of at the white tent.
Once you have your tickets in hand be sure to set your cellphone alarm for a minimum of 15 minutes before your train takes off as they have a place where they check tickets and you enter a line, rather then just standing on the platform. Tickets are checked before you get in line for the train. You will see at sign that tells you want train time that is currently lining up for Day Out with Thomas. Pay close attention as Strasburg Rail Road is also running their normal steam trains between Day Out with Thomas Trains. You don't want to miss the Thomas Train ;-)
Once your train ride is complete or before if you have time, be sure to get your picture with Thomas! To get your picture with Thomas you need to enter a line, which start around the enterance and Strasburg Rail Road ticket window. You our able to take your own picture or your whole family can be in the picture and you can purchase those pictures at Strasburg Rail Road that day.
During your visit to Day Out with Thomas don't forget to visit the Imagination Tent for some train fun and Free tattoos. They also have a food tent with some very yummy food available for purchase. Prices were somewhat reasonable for the food. They also have a tent full of you guessed it Day Out with Thomas merchandise. You can purchase various Thomas and Friends and Day Out with Thomas items in the tent.
Overall this is a great event for young children. My 3 and 2 year old really enjoyed it and when they saw Thomas for the first time their faces light up and that was a priceless moment. We are so lucky to live so close to Strasburg Rail Road which is such a great venue to host Day Out with Thomas. We saw people from various places including New York, North Carolina, Maryland and New Jersey. So my main tip is allow plenty of time to arrive and get a shuttle to Strasburg Rail Road and also allow enough time to spend at the railroad so you can enjoy everything Strasburg has to offer.
