Largest Indoor Waterpark in Pennsylvania

By Macaroni Kid Lancaster, Valene Lawrence July 21, 2015
Kalahari Resorts is your place for family fun in the Poconos!

My family and I had the opportunity to stay at Kalahari Resorts in Mount Pocono, which just opened this month. As you have probably hear it is currently the largest indoor waterpark in Pennsylvania and once complete will be the largest indoor waterpark in the country. Currently at 100,000 sq ft. there was plenty of things to do.

When we arrived it was very hot, of course we choose a 100 degree weekend to visit. Thankfully the resort offers valet parking and has plenty of luggage carts to make unloading a breeze. If your family is like mine, one of the first things the little ones had to do was use the restroom. So daddy took them while I checked in and I was shocked at how fast check-in was complete. I was expecting it to take a while, however as soon as they were out of the bathroom, I was done checking in. The process was very quick and painless.

We took the elevator to our room, which was on the 6th floor. Everyone age 2 and up got a wristband, which you use to open your room, so no need for a room key. In addition you can choose to use the wristband instead of your credit card for purchases at the resort. No need to take your credit card/wallet with you.
Our room type was a Dessert Room, which is one of the moderately priced rooms. Inside we found two queen sized beds and a pull out sofa, which was perfect for our family of six. Each room includes a refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, iron, ironing board, hair dryer and closet with a safe for any valuables.

We arrived just before dinner time, so by this point everyone was hurry and nope mommy wasn't cooking tonight! We headed downstairs to explore the options and were overwhelmed by the choices. They have eight different types of places to eat. Our selection for dinner was the buffet, Great Karoo Marketplace Buffet. The buffet was a bit more on the upscale side and was about $26 for adults and $10 for kids age 4 and up. The adults were able to get filet minion and the kids could get pizza, so the buffet definitely had something for everyone in our family. Of course they also had macaroni and cheese, which my kids really enjoyed. Seems you can never go wrong with some macaroni on the menu.

After dinner we were ready to hit the indoor waterpark for the first time. At this point it was storming pretty badly at the resort, however at the indoor waterpark the temperature was perfect, however we were nothing but dry. Everyone had a great time testing out the water slides. They really do have activities for all ages.

Have a child under 1 years old? Having a 4 month old I didn't think she would be able to do anything, but I was wrong. One station had seats built into it for the wee little ones, which my 4 month old really enjoyed. Of course I also held her and we went under some of the different water attractions at
SplashDown Safari as well.

Have a 1 year old or toddler? My 18 month old enjoyed most parts of Tiko's Watering Hole. She was required to wear a life jacket, which they provide. The smaller slides she was able to do without our help and some of the bigger slides we were able to ride with her side by side. She truly had a blast going on all the slides she was able to go on, including one at SplashDown Safari.

Have a preschooler? My 4 & 5 year old enjoyed going down all the slides at Tiko's Watering Hole, as well as the slides at SplashDown Safari. For these rides I was glad that they have it setup where a group of slides come down to the same spot. With us being outnumbered most of the time, it can be very hard to keep track of everyone. I must say that the setup made it easy to have both boys choose different slides, but end up at the same spot.

The indoor waterpark closed at 10pm, so after 2-3 hours everyone was exhausted and ready for bed. We headed back to the room for the night around 9-9:30PM. We missed the story time, which happened at 7:30PM. Will definitely have to make sure to put that on our list for next time.

On Sunday we woke up somewhat early, so that we were able to have the opportunity to have more family fun at Kalahari Resorts. Check out time is 11AM, but we were out of our room by 9AM. Good news is you don't have to even do anything for check out, it is automatic. Breakfast was the first thing on our itinerary for the day. This time we headed off site for breakfast.

After breakfast we headed back to Kalahari Resorts to go mini bowling and play games. The Family Entertainment Center at Kalahari Resort in the Poconos has activities for all ages and skill levels. One of our family favorites was mini-bowling. My 18 month old didn't even want to stop playing she was having so much fun. My boys enjoyed playing all the different games. They also had blacklight mini-golf and a XD Dark Ride 5-D Theater. Everything was very reasonably priced at the Family Entertainment Center. We didn't have time to do everything.

After some fun at the Family Entertainment Center it was back to the indoor waterpark and outdoor pool for the day. They have lockers to rent that start at $10/day for your valuables after check out or if you plan to go for the day. Also available are the cabanas for $200/day.

The outdoor pool was a very nice zero entry pool, however it was very humid outside. They also have a lazy river at both Tiko's Watering Hole and one for older kids/adults. That was a lot of fun too. We spent most of the rest of our day at Tiko's Watering Hole & SplashDown Safari.

Our recommendations for those choosing to visit Kalahari Resorts in Mount Pocono, PA. Visit the indoor waterpark in the evening as it didn't seem as busy on Saturday night as compared to Sunday during the day. Definitely stay more than one night, as we didn't feel like a one night stay was long enough, so we would recommend a 2 or 3 night stay. Be sure to checkout the Kalahari Adventures Club schedule, so you participate in their kid friendly activities such as cookie decorating, crafts, story time and more. Bring a waterproof camera or cellphone to capture images, as it was very hard to capture picture/video without getting wet!

Overall my family had a BLAST and we can't wait to book our next trip to Kalahari Resorts! Use the Promotional Code "B2G1" when you book online.  Offer is subject to availability. Terms and Conditions apply.
