Gather your family and join us on the “Journey to Bethlehem” at Woodcrest Retreat, an unforgettable event designed to experience the true story of Christmas in a spacious outdoor setting with dramatic actors, a live nativity and real animals. The event will be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9, 10, 16 and 17.
Now in its 6th year, the event has attracted over 11,000 guests.
Unique to this event, is that participants will actually become part of the story as they walk along trails with the Biblical characters and receive items to assist them on their “Journey.” In six unique scenes, participants will observe the Angel’s visit with Mary and then join Mary and Joseph on the way to Bethlehem and experience the disappointment of finding no room in the Inn. The “travelers” will join the shepherds around a warm crackling campfire watching their sheep by night when suddenly angels appear in the sky and proclaim the news of Jesus’ birth! Along with the shepherds, participants will hurry to the stable and experience the quiet wonder of finding Baby Jesus in the manger. The close of the “Journey” will feature a short video clip.
Journey to Bethlehem” participants will be welcomed to Woodcrest Retreat with over 300 luminaries lining the entrance and trails. Guests may arrive anytime between 6:00 – 8:30 on Fridays and 5:00 – 8:30 on Saturdays. The Journey will take approximately 60 minutes plus possible wait time. Upon arrival, guests will be directed to the Census Registration area where “taxes” will be collected on those ages 4 and older. Every 10 minutes a group of 30 participants will take a short wagon ride to be transported to their first stop on the “Journey to Bethlehem.” A bus will transport participants back to the parking lot at the close of the evening.
Taxes due are $10.00 adults; $ 5.00 children 4-16; Free children age 3 and under
$40.00 / immediate family maximum for those living in the same household. Taxes must be paid in cash or check only. Groups of 15 and larger should call 2 weeks in advance. All proceeds will benefit the summer camp ministry of Woodcrest Retreat.
Since the “Journey” takes place outside, participants will need to dress warmly and wear water resistant shoes or boots. Due to the moderate amount of walking along wooded trails and uneven terrain, unfortunately the “Journey” will not be able to accommodate those who need walking assistance or baby strollers.
